科研总结

本文是学生在美国大学科研学习结束后所写的感受,并在文后附录了学生的推荐信,供学生及家长参考。

I spent four weeks with professor on research in American University focusing on the impact of immigration decisions. Such topic is critical to current condition of economic development about the issue of redistribution of labor force from to urban areas. On the same time, such topic is appealing to me since this research help me access empirical analysis I did not have chance to access to in the previous two years of college since all I have learned in the economic classes in freshman and sophomore year are theoretical knowledge without analyzing the issues in reality.

我和教授在美国大学的研究上花了四周时间,专注于移民决策的影响。这一话题对于经济发展现状对劳动力再分配问题至关重要。与此同时,这个话题对我很有吸引力,因为这项研究帮助我获得了我在大学前两年没有机会获得的实证分析,因为我在大一和大二的经济课程中学到的都是理论知识而不分析现实中的问题。

During the research, we’ve learned how to analyze the effect of reform on migration decision on two sectors: economy transfer rights sector and government expropriation sector. For the analysis, we use STATA 15 as tools to simulate the association between migration decision and our different independent variables in different sectors. I’ve learned fundamental operations of STATA in Economic Statistics in sophomore year but complex operations such as processing large amounts of data and simulating probit or logit regression model is totally new to me. And skillful manipulations of STATA let me prepare lessons for Econometrics this fall semester. I am interested in using how to use software to resolve questions and I’ve used R studio to generate visualization in math classes and such basic knowledge of R language enables me tomake most of the opportunities to learn the STATA knowledge in this research. Although processing tons of data from boring survey is laborsome to us beginners of SATA, learning preliminaries for future internship would prove to be meaningful. Besides, cooperation with group members assists us to deal with the obscure problems effectively during the research. Constructing mathematical models is sometimes troublesome with sophisticated formulas and tedious trying of valid instrumental variables in endogenous checks after regression seems less burdensome when sharing out the work with group members. Moreover, learning how to write research paper is significant to my college studies as well since I’ve never written mathematical and economic research paper before and such experiences lays a significant foundation for my future postgraduate studies.

在研究过程中,我们学会了如何分析改革对迁移决策在两个部门的影响:经济转让权部门和政府征收部门。对于分析,我们使用STATA 15作为工具来模拟迁移决策与不同扇区中不同自变量之间的关联。我在二年级学习了经济统计中STATA的基本操作,但是处理大量数据和模拟概率或逻辑回归模型等复杂操作对我来说是全新的。对STATA的熟练操作让我在今年秋季学期为计量经济学准备课程。我有兴趣使用如何使用软件来解决问题,我使用R studio在数学课上生成可视化,这样的R语言基础知识使我能够在本研究中学习STATA知识的大部分机会。尽管从无聊的调查中处理大量数据对我们SATA的初学者来说是很有用的,但是未来实习的学习预备将被证明是有意义的。此外,与团队成员的合作有助于我们在研究过程中有效地处理模糊的问题。构建数学模型有时会很复杂,复杂的公式和在内部检查中对有效工具变量进行繁琐的尝试后,在与群体成员分享工作时回归似乎不那么繁琐。此外,学习如何撰写研究论文对我的大学学习也很重要,因为我以前从未写过数学和经济学研究论文,这些经历为我未来的研究生学习奠定了重要的基础。

According to my own observation and feedback, I noticed that X learned some basic economic theories; also he got familiar with how to find literature on a research topic and do relative empirical analysis. When he was trapped by difficulties, he would learn related knowledge by himself and consult others actively. Under such circumstance, X completed all the assignments perfectly.

根据我自己的观察和反馈,我注意到X学到了一些基本的经济理论;他也熟悉如何找到研究课题的文献并进行相关的实证分析。当他遇到困难时,他会自己学习相关知识,并积极地咨询他人。在这种情况下,X完成了所有的任务。

Last but not least, X was a polite student who would always greet me with a smile whenever he saw me. With courteous personality, he was popular in the group.

最后但同样重要的是,X是一个礼貌的学生,每当他看到我时,总会笑着迎接我。他性格谦逊,在小组中很受欢迎。

面试感受(选拔阶段)

During the interview, he asked me to introduce myself and to list the econ and math courses I have taken in the freshman and sophomore year and told me about the details of this program. I am really looking forward to the cooperation with other excellent students during the research. I will really appreciate the chance and seize the days in the month of research to lean more knowledge which I cannot get from the fundamental courses. At the end of the interview, I asked about the necessity of the usage of software. Although not professional to some of the softwares for analyzation of the data, I will catch up with the progression by learning from others and always ready to listen to advice.

在面试中,他让我自我介绍并列出我在大一和大二的时候所采取的经济和数学课程,并告诉我这个科研的细节。我真的很期待这次合作,在研究期间与其他优秀学生一起。我将非常感谢有机会并抓住研究月份的日子,以便从基础课程中获得更多的知识。在采访结束时,我询问了使用软件的必要性。虽然对于某些用于分析数据的软件不专业,但我会通过向他人学习并随时准备听取建议来赶上进展。

学生报名美国名校科研项目的当天,名校科研的后期申请老师会开始面试辅导,并会在未来7天内安排学生与美方大学科研组导师的视频面试。

科研周期

每期时间长度为3—4周;

(针对假期只有2周的申请者,可申请2周实地+2周远程,确保科研收获)

具体情况根据学生面试情况由美方进行调整;

报名后协调安排面试,面试前辅导学生阅读1篇专业论文;
