Philips Exeter Academy 夏令营分享
Hi my name is Bill. I am a 9-grade SDAer. (Shanghai DTD Academy）And this summer I joined the Philips Exeter Summer through UP Education. It is mysecond time to join a summer school. To be honest, I grew taller, I becamefatter I mean stronger. I got improvement on my body strength andbasketball skills. Also I tried something brand-new such asdodgeball, extended frisbee, and bowling with smaller balls, etc. And thismonth becomes one of the most memorable experience for me.
People are very friendly in Exeter whoever they arestudents or teachers. You can ask anything to them. And you may makesome very good friends. My best friend was Marco. He was born in Shanghaibut he moved to Miami when he was young. I met him because we had the sameadvisor and we had basketball class together. He was quitehumorous and he would help me with my poor English. To tell the truth, most of us cried when the camp was finished and we were back todifferent places.
And Ben was one of my friends. He was from Taiwan so wemay spoke Chinese when communicating. Actually Cantonese was a littlebit different from Mandarin so sometimes we may spoke English. He was afunny guy. We did homework and had breakfast and sometimes had lunchtogether. He always made me laugh. But I sometimes should knock on hisdoor to wake him up.
And also the curriculums were fun. My classes include GlobalIssues, Five modern languages and World literature. The five modernlanguages are Arabic, Japanese, Russian, French and Germany. All ofthem were very interesting but I could only memorize a little Japanese. AsI mentioned, the teachers were talented teachers, they could let you knowwhat was going on although I was the student who wasn’t goodat literature. To tell the truth, my first choice was CSL but I couldn’tjoin in this course because it had already reached maximum people. Howevermine was also awesome.
Also we could choose two sports for two weeks and I chosebasketball and frisbee.
Because I was an access student so my opponentwasn’t that good. But some local people were definitely stronger than me.So sometimes I had a disadvantage during games. But as I mentioned, sinceMarco was my best friend, so we won 70% of the games and he carried us. Hemade about 70% of the shot and I made 27%. And also we had one boy and twogirls as teammates. They made 3 shots in all.
Exeter was a great place to find yourself. I mean to findyour maximum of something. Personally, I touched the board for the firsttime.
And the most important and the most unique thing was must thetown. Wewere free to go to the town when wedidn’t have any class. And I went there for several times with my friends.Sometime we just bought ice-creamandwent to the river bank. And we found a pipeline down the bridge. And wehad an experience of exploring. And on the morning of the dance (which Iwill mention later ), my friend Marco went to have a haircut.Unfortunately I couldn’t find thephoto.
The dance was a part of the summer camp which was the partthat I had never thought of. I thought it would be a dinner and all thepeople would wear the formal suit. So I prepared my suit carefully. (Lastyear I forgot to bring a suit in Loomis Chaffee) This is the first timethat I misunderstood. And when I arrived the place with mybeautiful partner, I found out that I misunderstood at all.
I thought the atmosphere would be like very formal. Peopledressed on their best suit and danced with their partner and thebackground music would be like classic music written by Beethoven, Mozart,musicians like them. However the scene which made both my partner and me wasa crowded room with the most popular electrical music played loudly by thesound man. (蹦迪）Totell the truth, I was shocked and Ionly stayed there for about 1.5 hour. Then I spent 1.5 hours talking to mypartner. (No I would never show up the selfie that I took with my partner becauseof 直男自拍法）.
Probably these are all the things I could remember aboutExeter. I am sure that there are much more things than I can write but Ican’t memorize now. Thank you Exeter and all the friends and greatmemories you bought me!
